Hartville Ohio - Flea Market is a Family Tradition

This is the Hartville Flea Market's 65th year. The Hartville MarketPlace and the Flea Market have evolved from livestock auction, to one of Ohio's largest flea markets and antique collector's paradise. Founded by Sol Miller in 1939, Sol's son Howard took over the auction when his father passed away. As the farmland in Hartville was sold off for housing developments, the need for a live stock auction was reduced. The livestock auction was soon taken over by the flea market and an egg auction. The auctioneer of the egg auction was Don Stayer. The last egg auction ended in the early 70’s.
Flea Marketers set up on days of the auction and soon became the mainstay. We had 12,778 flea market set ups and sold over 200,000 dozen eggs, over 100,000 baskets of produce of all kinds were sold in 1975.
Howard Miller was the natural entrepreneur and envisioned the new flea market years ago. Marion Coblentz, Howard's son-in-law, began running the flea market in 1980 and he still runs it today.
The Hartville MarketPlace and Flea Market moved into its new location and opened its doors on September 5th, 2002. The Hartville MarketPlace and the Flea Market hope to carry on the Miller family traditions that were started more then 63 years ago.
